  Tomáš Valášek is director for Foreign Policy and Defence at the London-based think tank Center for European Reform, senior adviser at the Brussels-based office of the World Security Institute and a member of the expert group led by Madeleine Albright that works on the new strategy for NATO. Tomáš holds a M.A. in international relations from the George Washington University in Washington, DC, USA and a B.A. in journalism from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. His research and professional interests include transatlantic relations, the EU's common foreign and security policy and the defence industry. Tomáš previously worked as senior analyst for Europe at the Washington, DC-based think tank Center for Defence Information (1996-2002). At the same think tank, which reinvented itself as the World Security Institute, he also founded and led a Brussels-based office (2002-2006). Tomáš briefly left the third sector to run the Division for Security and Defence Policy at the Slovak Ministry of Defence (2006-2007). Tomáš has published numerous articles on international politics and security in leading academic journals, such as the Cambridge Review of International Politics, and principal media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and Jane’s Defense Weekly. He is member of the Board of Trustees at the Slovak Atlantic Council and member of the board of external advisers at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |
